Editorial Policy
Open Government Platform is committed to providing accurate, comprehensive, and unbiased information about government transparency, open data, and civic technology. This policy outlines our editorial standards and practices.
Our Editorial Principles
Accuracy
We are committed to factual accuracy in all our content. Every article is fact-checked against primary sources before publication. When we cite statistics, we link to original government documents, peer-reviewed research, or authoritative organizations.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are independent of any government, political party, or corporate interest. We do not accept payment for coverage, and any potential conflicts of interest are disclosed.
Non-Partisan Approach
We focus on open government principles and practices rather than political parties or candidates. While we analyze government policies, we do not endorse or oppose any political party, candidate, or ballot measure.
Transparency
We practice what we advocate. Our funding sources, organizational structure, and editorial processes are disclosed. We clearly distinguish between news, analysis, and opinion.
Content Creation Process
Expert Authorship
All substantive content is written by individuals with demonstrated expertise in their subject area. Authors' credentials and experience are verified and displayed on their profile pages.
Editorial Review
Before publication, all content undergoes editorial review for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to our style guidelines. Technical and legal content receives additional review by subject matter experts.
Fact-Checking
Our fact-checking process includes:
- Verification of all factual claims against primary sources
- Confirmation of statistics from original datasets
- Review of legal citations for accuracy
- Verification of quotes and attribution
Regular Updates
We regularly review and update existing content to ensure it remains accurate and current. Articles display their last update date, and significant changes are noted.
Corrections Policy
When errors are identified, we correct them promptly and transparently:
- Minor corrections (typos, formatting) are made without notation
- Factual corrections include a correction notice explaining what was changed
- Significant errors result in a prominent correction at the top of the article
To report an error, contact corrections@opengovtplatform.org.

We prioritize primary sources and authoritative references:
- Official government documents and data portals
- Peer-reviewed academic research
- Reports from established non-partisan organizations

All sources are cited within the text or in a sources section. We link to original documents whenever possible.
